Pre Season Friendly Wednesday 18th July, 2007 Pegasus Juniors0v4Hereford United A record crowd of six hundred and fifty eight saw Pegasus Juniors play Hereford United to mark the formal opening of Old School Lane, Hereford. The Coca Cola League 2 side cruised to a comfortable win in this the first pre-season game for both teams. The match ended with both sides happy as the visiting supporters went home following a victory and they were able to view the new signings made during the close season. Pegasus were happy as they performed to expectations and were not overwhelmed by the opposition. Hereford made a lively start and were two goals to the good inside the eight minutes. Ben Smith provided the cross for John McCombe to head across the goal to Steve Guinan who nodded home the first after four minutes. Then, four minutes on, Lionel Ainsworth, a triallist from Derby who impressed with some lively runs in the first period, intercepted a pass in front of the back four and raced through to slide in the second. The game was played a terrific pace with most players aware they would only playing for about an hour or so. Pegasus had their moments and Uniteds keeper Wayne Brown had to be alert to keep out a couple of efforts from Cory Hyde who made think he could have done better. Brown's opposite number Bryn Watkins pulled off the save of the half, 10 minutes before the break when he came out bravely to prevent Theo Robinson from adding a third. Hereford, who made ten changes to their line-up at half-time, finally extended their lead on the hour mark they gained a corner taken George Gerimi when Richard Rose headed from the penalty spot in a corner. Pegasus' substitute goalkeeper Bryan Kirkham pulled off an excellent save from a Cortez Belle header in the 79th minute. But, with the players still finding their feet and getting used to the new colleagues around them, there were no further goals until a minute from time when Chris Zebroski ended a fine run with a low shot into the bottom of the net. This was a tough workout for Pegasus who never stopped trying and stuck to the task manfully but, the gap between the sides was telling factor. Pegasus manager Steve Griffiths said after game. The lads all stuck to the game plan and performed really well. With five minutes to go I was happy with the score at three, the final goal disappointed me a bit. It was good night and I am sure the players will benefit from the experience. During the interval a number players from the junior section demonstrated their training techniques.
